Although not stated as clearly or concisely, the vast majority of Jhumpa Lahiri’s stories retell the truths told above. Three stories in particular; A Temporary Matter, When Mr. Pirzada Comes to Dine, and The Third and Final Continent, especially exemplify the quote above. The two confess everything from selling an anniversary present, to going to the bar to avoid in-laws, and finally Shukumar ad mits to never telling his wife that he indeed did see their stillborn child after it was born. Somehow, without saying anything, it had turned into this. Into an exchange of confessions—the little ways theyd hurt or disappointed each other, and themselves (Lahiri, NUMBER!). Throughout the story the reader realizes the lack of respect Shoba and Shukumar have for each other. Both Shukumar and Shoba look at their partner with disdain and hostility. When Shoba struggles with the loss of her child, Shukumar does not respect her grief. Instead of comforting her he distances himself and makes mention of her lack of makeup. When Shukumar does try to reach out to his wife by making her dinner in efforts to pick up the pieces of their relationship, Shoba does not respect his efforts and either eats dinner in her study or makes it seem as if eating dinner with her husband is a burden. The couple has reached a stalemate, an impasse that has quickly led to indifference. The two live separate lives, yet they pretend to participate in a marriage. When Shoba finally stops in to greet him at night, Shukumar tries to look busy (David). I had been involved in music since the 5th grade. Ovid being a part of a choir and the great benefits it had towards me even till this day. My most memorable moment was when made the top 5 soprano list in the Phoenix Union High School. It has taught me a lot about team work, perseverance, and confidence. My experience with being an audience member for visual arts expands as each year comes, Lots of my experiences come from back in high school, only four years ago. With the help of my performing art teachers was about to see many varieties of performances. They include Madame Butterfly, Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, Traditional Mexican Folk Dance (La Randall) and Jazz Mad.
